KCC has chosen to install bound4blue’s eSAIL solution following a thorough study of alternative sail technologies. The study identified eSAILs as the most efficient option for the evaluated vessels and their trade routes. bound4blue’s eSAIL, a suction sail that harnesses wind energy to generate clean forward thrust, will significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions from the vessel’s main engine.
Two eSAILs will be installed at the vessel’s bow to optimise port operations. This DNV Type Approved solution uses a fan system to move air across the sail’s aerodynamically optimised surface, enhancing propulsive efficiency. Available in three model sizes ranging from 12 m to 36 m in height, KCC will be the first shipowner to install the largest unit, the model 3.
