PSA Breakbulk launches PCE in Port of Antwerp

PSA Breakbulk has officially launched the Port of Antwerp’s first Project Cargo Ecosystem (PCE), a single-window breaker cargo terminal located behind locks on the south side of Churchill Dock.

The new PCE will offer value-added infrastructure, equipment and services for industrial partners to load and unload, store, pack, consolidate and build their high-end project cargo within a dedicated location.

With direct access to the sea and inland without tides, the PCE will offer the infrastructure, equipment and space to load, unload, store and handle all types of project cargo. The terminal has a quay length of 550 m, a draft of 13 m and an area of 140,000 m².

Currently, it is equipped with self-propelled modular conveyors (SPMT) with up to 40 axle lines for moving heavy and bulky loads. A permanent heavy-duty crane with a lifting capacity of up to 750 tonnes, the highest in the entire port, was also recently installed. As sustainability is a key priority, PSA Breakbulk has also invested in the electrification of its equipment and the installation of a wind turbine, which aims to be operational by 2025.

‘We strongly believe in the added value of this PCE for the industry in and around the Port of Antwerp and for the development of the Port and Flanders. By offering a one-stop-shop concept, we make the entire process more transparent, visible and convenient for our customers,’ says Dennis Verbeeck, general manager of PSA Breakbulk.
