The Port of Aalborg has enhanced its operational capabilities with the arrival of a new Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane. This cutting-edge machinery is set to play a pivotal role in handling project cargo, particularly components for offshore wind energy, while also supporting the movement of dry bulk goods and containers.
With exceptional specifications, the LHM 550 boasts a lifting capacity of up to 144 tonnes using its hook, a grab capacity of 19 to 25 cubic metres for materials like stone and grain, and an outreach of 54 metres when equipped with a Bromma EH170U container spreader. Its lifting heights range from a minimum radius of 51 metres to a maximum of 31 metres, making it a versatile addition to Aalborg’s equipment portfolio.
The crane is scheduled to begin operations in mid-November, following an intensive preparation process overseen by Liebherr experts. Since its arrival, two engineers have been on-site, managing critical tasks such as dismantling transport equipment, installing wire ropes, configuring crane parameters, and ensuring all systems are fully operational. Extensive testing has been conducted on the grab, hook block, container yoke, and fire extinguishing systems to guarantee optimal performance.
In a press statement, the Port of Aalborg expressed its excitement about this significant upgrade, highlighting how the new crane will support the port’s ambition to serve the renewable energy sector and meet growing customer demands. This investment underscores Aalborg’s dedication to operational excellence and sustainable development.
