Port of Kalama Secures $26.3M Federal Grant for Rail Expansion

The Port of Kalama has received a major boost for its TEMCO Rail Expansion Project with a $26.3 million grant from the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Rail Administration (FRA) under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Programme.

Enhancing Efficiency and Reducing Congestion

The TEMCO Project will add over 25,000 linear feet of track to the port’s rail system, revolutionising grain loading operations. The expansion is expected to boost loading efficiency by 25–30%, enabling direct loading from rail to ship without the need to reposition inbound rail cars—a process that currently causes a 7-hour delay.

This additional rail capacity will not only streamline port operations but also help alleviate congestion on the broader national rail network.

The grant underscores the importance of the TEMCO Project in supporting trade efficiency and strengthening the US transportation infrastructure. Stay tuned for updates on this transformative initiative.
