Exhibitor Spotlight: Haven Genk

Haven Genk was founded in 1936 as a coal harbour. After the acquisition by the current shareholders (Group Machiels and Aperam) in 1997, the former coal harbour was transformed into a modern trimodal logistics platform which is operational since 2000.

What does Haven Genk do?

Haven Genk operates an inland terminal with trimodal (water, road and railway) connections. We provide various transport and logistics solutions to international shippers and local production companies. Haven Genk can handle a wide variety in cargo: packed, bulk and breakbulk with a specialization in steel, minerals, recycling materials and metals. On our rail terminal we can handle containers, trailers, swap bodies, bulk wagons and flat racks.
Our USP’s are the trimodal connection, the location in the hinterland of the seaports and the sustainable one-stop-shop logistic solutions.

What are your long-term plans?

We would like to focus more on the development of our bulk and breakbulk terminal as well as in railway solutions. To achieve this we invested in additional storage and transshipment facilities: warehouses, open/ covered bulk boxes, silo’s for dry bulk storage and even liquid tank storage, all water connected. We are also expanding our rail terminal with value added solution and additional capacity to handle trains.

Your biggest project of 2023/2024?

The launch of our Zeebrugge rail connection in January 2024. After long investigation and preparation we have started our own Haven Genk shuttle connecting the terminals in port of Zeebrugge with Haven Genk. In this way we can provide an intermodal connection to shortsea destination like UK, Nordics, Spain, Portugal.

What do you feel about exhibiting at AntwerpXL this year?

We would like to promote Haven Genk to the breakbulk community as the inland terminal which is located ideally in the hinterland of main seaports, close to Dutch and German industrial locations, with intermodal connections. Many people are surprised when they visit our facility: our available storage area and the equipment (cranes etc) we have.
Via Antwerp XL we would like to develop valuable partnerships!
